The annual Third Coast / Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Competition honors the most creative and compelling audio work being produced worldwide. Cash prizes of up to $6000 are awarded for: Best Documentary (Gold, Silver, Bronze, Honorable Mention, Directors' Choice,) Best New Artist, Radio Impact, Best News Feature and for Lifetime Achievement in the field (Audio Luminary Award).

The 2009 TC/RHDF Competition attracted 240 entries of all lengths and styles from ten different countries across five continents. The winners were selected by a panel of expert judges and honored on October 23rd, 2009 at our Awards Ceremony held at the Arts Club of Chicago. Accepting the Festival's 2009 Audio Luminary Award was legendary American radio dramatist Erik Bauersfeld, who has been an essential inspiration to some of the most accomplished sound desginers working today, and has championed the radio drama form for decades.

The winning documentaries from the 2009 Competition were featured in the 2009 Third Coast Festival Broadcast, coming up this fall on public radio stations nationwide over the holiday season.
