The TCF Audio Luminary Award is presented annually to an individual who has made significant and on-going contributions to radio and/or audio production. Not only has this person left a profound mark on the audio field, he or she continues to be a source of inspiration to others. Each year a committee of producers joins the Third Coast Festival staff in selecting the winner from a slate of nominations submitted by radio fans, producers and other radio professionals worldwide.

Third Coast Festival Audio Luminary Award winners:

2007: Peter Leonhard Braun is widely regarded as the "father" of the European "radio feature." He co-founded the International Features Conference and has otherwise influenced generations of radio producers around the globe. Braun currently manages the radio department of the Prix Europa.
2006: Piers Plowright is an internationally respected producer who created radio dramas, documentaries and features for the BBC from 1967-1997. Now almost seventy, Plowright continues to teach his craft and produce work independently.

2005: Lauded as the “poet laureate of radio,” Norman Corwin is widely credited with creating some of the most important radio programs of the mid-twentieth century.

2005: Steve Wadhams is a longtime producer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has set himself apart as a masterful documentarian and a mentor to producers worldwide.

2004: Susan Stamberg, NPR Special Correspondent who as co-anchor of All Things Considered became the first woman in the country to anchor a nightly news program in 1972.
2003: Joe Frank, Peabody Award-winning radio artist, host and playwright.
2002: Studs Terkel, longtime radio veteran and Pulitzer Prize-winning author and oral historian.
2001: Bill Siemering, one of the founders of National Public Radio, he’s currently helping communities develop radio stations in emerging democracies throughout the world.

Nominations for the 2007 ALA will be accepted starting next May, when the call for entries is issued for the 2007 Third Coast Festival / Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Competition. At that time a downloadable nomination form will be posted here, and as in previous years we will strongly suggest that you encourage others to follow your nomination with additional letters of support sent via email or to the address below.
