Behind the Scenes with Sandy Thacker, co-producer of Childhood Trains

Sandy Thacker is a CBC music producer based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Her instruments are piano, oboe, english horn and bagpipes of various kinds. When she's not recording chamber music, orchestras and soloists, Sandy likes to make radio features for programs such as Shaken not Stirred, Tapestry and In Performance on CBC. In 2006 Thacker was chosen to take part in In Your Ear, a documentary making/mentoring bootcamp led by Steve Wadhams of CBC's Outfront. Childhood Trains is the result of that project. Thacker likes to think that *people can see with their ears..." |
In Your Ear is a radio bootcamp at CBC lead by award-winning documentary maker Steve Wadhams of
Outfront. Three people are chosen to work with Steve and be mentored by him. The goal is to find and develop people who will be CBC's leading documentary producers and editors in the years to come and, secondly, to create radio storytelling which fully exploits the potential of the medium (radio)and that draws on journalism, drama, music, poetry and literature, but which is not limited by the conventions of these more established genres.
Each person produces at least one substantial radio feature of their own, and will also contribute in the development and production of the work of their colleagues. The work will air on IDEAS, CBC Radio's premier program of contemporary thought.
