Every year smokejumpers, or wildland firefighters who parachute into remote areas to fight forest fires, secure their jobs in part by running for it.
Produced for the 2010 TCF ShortDocs Challenge: Book Odds.
Nan Floyd has been jumping out of perfectly good airplanes to fight forest fires the past 11 years. Floyd lives most of the time in Winthrop, Washington, but spends many winter nights running gravel roads in Colorado.
Book Odds invited anyone/everyone to produce a short audio work inspired by (and named after) song titles from The Books' record The Way Out, and including samples from their library of musical bits, strange phrases and sonic doodads. Read more about and listen to other Book Odds submissions.
