Dollar Storeys was a public audio project that invited producers, artists, writers and radio fans of all experience levels to submit finished audio stories clearly based on one of three specific dollar store items (pictured below) and lasting 2:30 – 3:00 (min) in length.

WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING DOLLAR STOREYS SUBMISSIONS. But every submission that arrived over the course of the project has been posted permanently in the Dollar Storeys archive, and four "buck-tales" were selected as the 2007 TCF ShortDocs, and presented at the 2007 TCF Conference.

About the project
The Third Coast Festival is collaborating with Chicago's Dollar Store reading series to bring you Dollar Storeys - a public audio project inspired by items purchased at a dollar store.
The Dollar Store presents monthly readings and performances by a variety of local writers, artists, performers and other talented people who are none of the above. For each Dollar Store show, guests are given an item purchased at a local dollar store (mundane to insane) and a month to craft a story (fiction or non-) that somehow involves the item.
Inspired by the humor, creativity and storytelling enthusiasm cultivated by the Dollar Store, the TCF has joined forces with the fearless DS hosts - Jonathan Messinger and Jeremy Sosenko - to craft an audio challenge in the Dollar Store tradition. Anyone and everyone is invited to play, whether you're about to pick up a microphone for the first time, or have been working for NPR for decades.

Guidelines / Items
Basically, it's simple. Pick an item, produce a story. Here are a few other details:
> Dollar Storey submissions will be accepted April 1 - midnight, August 31st, 2007.
> Each Dollar Storey must fall between 2:30 and 3 minutes in length.
> Dollar Storeys may be documentary, fictional, or a hybrid of both.
> Each Dollar Storey must be clearly inspired by one of the dollar store items pictured below, whether figuratively or literally.
> There's no limit on submissions per producer, but we recommend limiting yourself to three.
> Submissions that include the use of sound (beyond one person's voice) are especially welcome. After all, it IS radio we're talking about. Let the sounds help.
