
Isabel Cadenas Cañón
Isabel Cadenas Cañón (she/her) is an independent audio producer and writer, based between Madrid and Bilbao.
She’s the creator, host and producer of De eso no se habla (We Don’t Talk About That), a narrative non-fiction podcast about silences… and about how we break them (part of PRX’s Google Podcasts Creator Program). Between 2021 and 2022, she was the Executive Producer of Audio at El País, where she created and trained the newspaper’s first audio team and directed the newspaper’s daily podcast, among other things. Her audio stories have been broadcast by WBUR, Radio Ambulante, Deutsche Welle, Las Raras, and several Spanish radio outlets. Her work was awarded the Jury's Special mention in the Ondas awards (Spanish awards for radio and TV), the Colombine International Journalism Prize and the Prize of the Spanish Association of Investigative Reporting (API), among others. She was a finalist at Prix Europa 2021 and Third Coast Festival 2022 and 2023!
She’s published three books (2 poetry, 1 essay), holds an MA in Theater and Performance Studies (Université Paris 3 Sorbonne nouvelle) and an MFA in Creative Writing and a PhD in Spanish Cultural Studies from New York University. She teaches/has taught audio documentary at several public and private institutions and Cultural History at New York University, Madrid. She’s most concerned about voice, memory, feminism and the ethics of telling other people’s stories.
