Mariya Karimjee was a teenager in Texas when she first confronted her mother about the genital cutting she'd undergone as a child in Pakistan. Winner of the TC/RHDF 2016 Gold Award .

Mariya takes us on a rare and candid journey about what happened next - navigating family, love, her body and personal relationships - from Texas, to an all-women's college in Western Massachusetts, and all the way back to Pakistan.

Mariya was based on Mariya Karimjee's 2015 essay for The Big Roundtable .
