About a year ago, producers at KPCC started discussing the inevitable major quake set to hit Los Angeles and wondered how they could get people to not just listen but really prepare. The Big One: Your Survival Guide is what they came up with.

In about half of the episodes, The Big One weaves a fictional 2nd person narrative into advice from experts on what to expect. Every episode is a team effort with writing and interviews contributed by all the team's producers. The first episode walks the listener through the science and immediate aftermath of a big one in LA.

The Earthquake was hosted by Jacob Margolis, written and reported by Arwen Nicks, Misha Euceph and Jacob Margolis, produced by Misha Euceph and Arwen Nicks edited by Megan Garvey. Sound design by Arwen Nicks, with help from Misha Euceph, music by Andy Clausen and engineering by Shawn Corey Campbell and Valentino Rivera. Production and reporting help from James Kim, Mary Knauf, and David Rodriguez.
