Days after his 21st birthday, Noel Anaya had one final hearing before aging out of California’s foster care system, and he didn’t want to go through it alone.
Anaya wanted to bring millions into that courtroom with him, where he’d suffered time and time again since he was removed from his family at the age of one and placed into foster care.
Emancipation: A Young Man Leaves Foster Care on His Own Terms was produced by Noel Anaya with Brett Myers and edited by Youth Radio’s Editorial Team and Greg Dixon for NPR’s All Things Considered .
